Sausage Rolls

Cheese steak Pastry Cups

Is a party really a party without some sort of pig in a blanket?  These flavor packed sausage rolls beat hotdogs all day, every day. In my humble opinion, anyway.  Plus, they’re crazy easy to make.

Active Time: 15 min.

Total Time: 35 min.

Servings: 36 rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 1 2 pack box puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 eggs divided
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 Tbs parsley
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic or powder
  • 1 tsp granulated onion or powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • 1 tbs Water

Roadmap:

Defrost puff pastry overnight or according to package directions.

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.
  3. In bowl mix together sausage, bread crumbs, 1 egg, thyme, parsley, granulated onion or powder, granulated garlic or powder, salt and pepper.
  4. Using your hand or a spatula, divide into 6 equal portions and set aside.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your puff pastry to seal creases & thin it out just a bit. Cut into 3 long rectangle sections – where the creases were.
  6. Place sausage down the center of each section leaving an inch or so of pastry on either side.
  7. Bring sides together and pinch to seal and pat down slightly, repeat with remaining sausage and pastry.
  8. Cut long roll into 6 equal portions and then slice the top with a knife 2 times to create holes to release steam.
  9. Place sausage rolls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
  10. In a small bowl whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water and brush on tops of the sausage rolls.  Sprinkle with finishing salt, coarse black pepper or grated cheese if you wish.
  11. Bake for about 20 minutes until pastry is puffed and tops are golden.

Enjoy with mustard, barbeque, ranch or your favorite dipping sauce.
